I have many things to update you on! But I am tired and it’s late and this is not my computer. So you must wait from now until as late as Tuesday before I have the convenience to write to you a long and involved update. But rest assured that I have arrived home safely from the Caribbean, I miss you, and I have some stories to tell and thoughts to share.
For now, I will relate this immediate anecdote. Tonight, while washing the dishes, I accidentally broke the very last of my mother’s favorite wine glasses. I know they were her favorite because last night, after I accidentally broke the second to last of her favorite wine glasses, we discussed why they were the ideal wine glasses. Apparently that was the second one broken so far this year, making tonight’s the third. While she wasn’t mad last night, because accidents happen, I imagine she won’t be pleased in the morning when she sees the remains of the last glass on the counter. Hopefully she will be comforted by the accompanying note, on nice stationary, which reads:
Apparently, I have done something to anger the Wine Spirits who have taken it upon themselves to curse me. Or, they think you need new wine glasses. Fortunately, I think I have found some glasses similar, if not identical, to the ones I have broken, and for a good price [thank [deity] for amazon.com]. Happy belated Mother’s Day! [Yeah, that’s right, I failed at Mother’s Day because I was out of town on Beach Week. I was going to take her to a movie sometime soon but I’ve been out of town a lot. I’m terrible. But I will make up for it by replacing the wine glasses with 3 times as many as I broke. So there.]
Hopefully she will remember that I am clumsy, and not get angry about it, at least not angry at me, and hopefully the note will make her feel better about the loss of the last glass.
